It's World Art Day!

Today is World Art Day!!

World Art Day is an international celebration of the fine arts, which was declared by the International Association of Art (IAA/AIAP), to promote awareness of creative activity worldwide.
The first World Art Day was held on April 15th, 2012, a date chosen in honor of Leonardo da Vinci's birthday which is also April 15th!!

Today, create anything you want! It can be of your own creation or you can visit this page and pick an idea from here!
And hang it up! Show it off! Tell someone about it!
Hang it in a window, on the fridge, on your wall, send a photo to a friend, family member or me!
Let me see those creations!!
Need some inspiration?
Visit the Vincent Van Gogh Museum and find your favorite artwork!

Art for Kids Hub Reminder!

Just a reminder to check out Art for Kids Hub if you are bored! They have so many videos on their website and are always posting new ones!
Parents, have no fear! I highly recommend them! They also can be found on You Tube Kids (ad free!)

Art For Kids Hub!!

A student favorite! I use this as a reward, for my early finishers and get asked is it Art Hub day often? This father will draw along side his children demonstrating the art elements and principles of design. They usually color their projects, but that is not needed. They also draw with sharpies (easy to see when recording) so don't feel like you need one of those either!  There are several topics and something for everyone and age on this. THIS IS A YOU TUBE CHANNEL!! So beware of random ads. You can add the channel to Kids You Tube and get it ad free-which I highly recommend.

Their blog has embedded videos with you tube ads but children can't navigate to other suggested videos. Click here to see their blog

What to do with....chalk!!

Do you have sidewalk chalk?
Besides drawing on sidewalks, you can also draw on other materials!!
This one will be a little messy, so make sure you ask and adult first!
You will need a white crayon, some paper and chalks. You can modify this and use whatever you have lying around (think of the blank side of a cardboard box, inside of a cereal box-if you had paint you could paint the cardboard, and work on it when its dry!). Those would make awesome backgrounds!

If your internet is limited, or you only have pencil and paper
download Jenny's owl how to sheet (or screen shot it) to help you

Now that the sun is out you can get outside with your chalk and have it last more than a day!
I love this colorful and easy idea with sidewalk chalk and painters tape (or any tape!)
I love the color and geometric shapes!
You couldn't even practice your tints and shades!!

Patterned Eggs!!

This week, make a patterned egg and post it in your window! There are walking egg hunts happening. This means, while you are out on a walk, you can try to spot the eggs in windows of houses in your neighborhood!
Here is an egg to print and color.
No Printer? No Problem, you can draw one (or hold your paper to the screen you are using and trace it)

Let's take a minute to talk about patterns!
Patterns are designs that repeat!
You can add different types of lines
And then add alternating shapes to make a pattern

Have fun! Use what materials you have around the house!

Try putting rows of patterns

Shaving Cream Marbling!!

Today we are going to do a messy one!
BUT the results are amazing!
Shaving cream marbling is a fun way to add beautiful swirly designs to paper.

 Here's what you need:
Shaving Cream
Paint- ( I used finger paint) but acrylic paint, watercolor paint , even food dye
Pen to write your name on paper
Paper (I did half a sheet of 9x12 paper)
Cardboard scrap to scrape shaving cream
Spray some shaving cream about the size of your paper.

Flatten and smooth it with the cardboard
Stick with analogous colors (colors next to each other on the color wheel)
Put a few drops of color on the shaving cream.

Swirl (with your finger, or a fork)

Gently press your paper onto the shaving cream.

Pick up your paper, and flip it over, use the cardboard to scrape off the extra shaving cream. (you can add the used shaving cream back to your pile and reuse it over and over again!
REVEAL!!
Look at those beautiful swirls!!

Now you can make something with this! Bookmarks, draw something on top of it.
Tomorrow I will be posting an egg project that these would be perfect for!
